Staff report
LEXINGTON — Lexington’s girls basketball team took another step toward winning their first conference championship since — well, since Dr. Naismith hung up the first peach basket.
In other words, the Yellow Jackets have never won one. Not ever.
There’s a reason. Lexington has been playing for a long time in the Central Carolina Conference, a league that has produced 17 girls basketball state champions. Six of those state titles have been won by Salisbury.
Coached by former West Rowan and Salisbury assistant Robert Hairston, Lexington (15-4, 7-0) handled North Rowan, the 2024 CCC champs, 72-45 on Monday.
Lily Ervin scored 23 points, Makayla Bobo had 19, and Jordyn Dearmon scored 11.
Lexington overcame a huge game by North’s Krisstyle Stockton. Stockton had 23 points and 12 rebounds.
Dasia Elder had 11 points and five steals for the Cavaliers (4-13, 2-5).
Za’Kiya Oglesby-Peck had five steals. Allanah McArthur had three assists.
NORTH scoring — Stockton 23, Elder 11, Oglesby-Peck 4, Robinson 3, Cowan 2, King 1, Conner 1.
