College men’s basketball: Blue Bears beat rival

SALISBURY — Jacob Hukins probably wasn’t on the Winston-Salem State scouting report, but he rescued Livingstone’s men’s basketball team on Saturday.

Hukins hasn’t been on the court much this season, but he made five 3-pointers and scored 16 points in 15 minutes to lift the Blue Bears to a 64-59 victory over the Rams in CIAA action at New Trent Gym.

Livingstone (9-10, 2-6) won despite 31.6 percent shooting. Hukins made more than half of Livingstone’s nine 3-pointers. The Blue Bears also took care of the basketball, making only seven turnovers.

Jamal Cannady Jr. scored 18 for the Blue Bears. James Nipper had 12.

Tyre Boykin scored 25 for the Rams (3-16, 0-8). The Rams shot 41.5 percent but made 17 turnovers.
