Teen programs at Rowan Public Library will look a little different this spring but will still bring 11-17-year-olds the type of information and entertainment they’ve come to expect. Teens might be used to all the programs being the same at every RPL location, but the programs this spring at RPL Headquarters in Salisbury will be different than the programs at RPL West (Cleveland), RPL East (Rockwell) and RPL South (China Grove). The biggest change this spring will be the time for each teen program; instead of afternoon programs from 4-5 p.m., all teen programs will be in the evenings from 6-7 p.m. unless otherwise noted on flyers and social media.

In February, RPL Headquarters will be hosting a variety of programs such as an escape room, creating and decorating a bullet journal, and even our annual Get Schooled program. At RPL South, teens will be able to design their own rubber duckie with paint pens and at RPL West, teens can travel the Oregon Trail and see if they can “survive the trip.” RPL East is going to bring it all the way back to the golden oldies with an exciting game of Bingo.

With the warmer weather in March, RPL Headquarters will be practicing mindfulness with the Rowan County Health Department and children’s associate Mr. Duane will be leading teens in some calming yoga. The team from Rowan Wild at Dan Nicholas Park will be at the library to talk about what it means to have a professional job out in nature and working directly with animals. At RPL South, RPL East, and RPL West, the library staff will be putting together escape rooms, another design a duck program and more.

Finally, to end the spring semester in April, teen programs include a session on Fire Safety with the Salisbury Fire Department, more mindfulness and mental health safety, and an open mic night especially made for teens and young adults. Bring your guitar, your poetry journal and your favorite short story to share with an audience. Registration for the Teen Open Mic can be done online at bit.ly/RPLTeenOpenMic.
