High school swimming: East’s Sechriest 3rd in 2 regional events

CHARLOTTE — East Rowan’s Addy Sechriest placed third in the 3A Western Regional in two events on Saturday and qualified for the 3A State Championships.

Sechriest swam 2:03.14 in the 200 freestyle and 5:31.03 in the 500 freestyle.

The event was held at the Mecklenburg Aquatic Center.

South Piedmont Conference teams dominated the regional. Lake Norman Charter won four events and the team championship. Central Cabarrus won four events and was runner-up in the team scoring. Northwest Cabarrus placed third. Concord had two individual champions and placed fifth.

The meet scored 16 places.

East Rowan’s girls were 14th in the team scoring. Gracie Lineberger was 11th in the 100 free and 12th in the 50 free.

East placed 10th in the 400 relay with Sechriest, Lineberger, Mady Morris and Ellie Lentz. The same girls took 14th place in the 200 free relay.

South Rowan was 21st in the team scoring. All of South’s 16 points came from the relays.

Sadie Siscoe, Brinley Patterson, Ava Blume and Gracie Hinson were 12th in the 200 IM relay. The same girls were 15th in the 200 free relay. Hinson, Blume, Siscoe and Kayleigh Draughn were 16th in the 400 free relay.

Karis Miller scored three points for Carson with 14th place in the 100 backstroke.
