College women’s basketball: LC wins in two overtimes

SALISBURY — Livingstone’s women’s basketball team won the hard way on Saturday, surviving a determined upset bid by Winston-Salem State in two overtimes.
Livingstone was fortunate to win 91-84 in a frantic game that included 51 turnovers and 653 fans at New Trent Gym. Winston-Salem State missed 25 free throws — 20-for-45 . That helped the Blue Bears immensely.
Livingstone shot well, 41 percent from the field with nine 3-pointers, but turned it over 26 times.
The Rams (5-15, 1-9) led 39-37 at halftime.
Morgan Kelson made a layup for the Blue Bears (8-13, 6-5) with five seconds left in regulation to get the game to overtime.
Boston Bates missed a shot to win it at the end of the first overtime, but Livingstone took charge early in the second overtime. A free throw by Jasiah Crawford put the Blue Bears ahead to stay.
Thalia Carter scored 19 and paced five Blue Bears in double figures. Samiyah Briggs and Jay’La Williams scored 16 each. Kelson had 11, while Bria Griffith added 10.
Chrstiana McLean scored 19 for the Rams.
