College women’s basketball: Catawba gets home win

Salisbury — Janiya Foskey had 23 points and eight rebounds to power Catawba to a 57-49 win against Newberry on Wednesday night.

Catawba won the South Atlantic Conference contest at Goodman Arena in front of 323 fans.

The Indians weren’t at their best, shooting 36 percent with 21 turnovers, but Newberry (5-15, 4-12) was worse. The Wolves shot 34 percent with 27 turnovers.

Catawba (12-8, 10-6) trailed the Wolves 19-18 at halftime, but the pace picked up in the second half. Catawba won it with a 21-point fourth quarter.

Mary Spry, former Carson star, had eight points and five rebounds. Bailee Goodlett, who starred at North Rowan, had eight points, three assists and two steals.
