College women’s basketball updates: Bryant leading NC Central

DURHAM — North Carolina Central’s women’s basketball team is 0-8 after playing an impossible early schedule that has included six road games, one at South Dakota.

The Eagles have played Georgia, Clemson and Florida State and will take on UNC today (Friday, Nov. 29).

Sophomore Kyla Bryant (Salisbury) is leading the team with 12.8 points per game and is averaging 5.3 rebounds per game, which is second on the team. She has a team-high 19 assists and is 18-for-21 on free throws.

She’s  averaging 36 minutes per contest.

BLUEFIELD, W. Va. — Sophomore Icecis Nwafor (Salisbury) didn’t play in one game but is averaging 15 minutes per game for Bluefield State (3-3) and is contributing 6.6 points and 4.0 rebounds per game.

MARS HILL — Freshman Lauren Arnold has played in four games for Mars Hill (5-2) and has scored seven points.

CHARLOTTE — D’Ajua Cuthbertson has started five games for Johnson & Wales (5-3) and has played in all eight. She averages 16 minutes per game. She  focuses on defense and has contributed nine points and 12 rebounds.

WILMINGTON — De’Mya Phifer (West Rowan) averaged 5.0 points and 3.0 rebounds in her first two games for Cape Fear Community College.

SALISBURY — Freshman Bailee Goodlett (North Rowan) has been an immediate starter for the Catawba Indians (3-3) and is averaging 10.0 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.7 assists.

CLARION, Pa. — Hannah Wilkerson (North Rowan) has been the sixth person for Clarion (6-1) and is averaging 9.1 points — third on the team — and 5.4 rebounds per game.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Bethany Rymer (South Rowan) is coming off the bench for Columbia International (0-7) but is third on the team in scoring with 9.3 points per game and is averaging 5.4 rebounds.

GREENSBORO — Carleigh Perry (Carson) has started every game for Guilford and averages 6.2 points and 6.0 rebounds. She has 14 assists and 19 steals.

Guilford (6-0) is strong at the D-III level and scored 99 points against Averett on Tuesday.

MISENHEIMER — Hannah Isley (Carson) has started four games for Pfeiffer (3-3) and is averaging 6.2 points and 2.2 rebounds per game.

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Colbie Perry (Carson) has been injured and played for the first time this season for Converse on Tuesday.
