STATESVILLE — Sophomore forward Drew Neve scored a career-high 26 points as Carson won 59-47 at Statesville on Monday.

The Cougars (3-0) didn’t have a smooth outing, but a 23-7 edge in the third quarter proved decisive. Neve scored 11 in that quarter.

The Greyhounds (1-1) got hot from outside and led 19-11 early in the second quarter, but Carson put together a 14-1 run that changed the game.

Statesville scored the last five points of the half for a 25-all tie at halftime, but Carson came out for the third quarter with a three-point barrage by Jonah Drye and Neve.

Drye made five 3-pointers and scored 16 points.

Statesville held CP Perry to 11 points by being physical with him when he went to the rim.

Jacob Mills returned from a sprained ankle, but was a little off on his jumper and scored only five.

MJ Gladden led the Greyhounds with 13 points.
