RALEIGH — The Public School Forum of North Carolina has announced a debate between North Carolina Superintendent of Public Instruction candidates Michelle Morrow and Mo Green to be held in the auditorium at Pinecrest High School in Southern Pines on Oct. 14 at 7 p.m.

For nearly 40 years, the Public School Forum of North Carolina has served as a nonpartisan champion of better schools. It brings together individuals and institutions from business, education and government to study education issues, develop ideas, seek consensus and ultimately inform and shape education policy. As part of this mission, it has hosted various candidate forums and debates. This debate will be hosted by the Public School Forum of N.C. and was made possible at the invitation of the Moore County Board of Education. The debate will be moderated by North Carolina Leadership Forum co-chairs John Hood and Sen. Leslie Winner.

“This year’s election for superintendent of public instruction will have a significant impact on public education in our state moving forward,” a release from the forum said. “Because of this, we believe it is imperative that every voter has a chance to hear from the candidates on critical issues related to education. Through our engagement with education stakeholders, we repeatedly hear that rural counties often feel left out of statewide policy conversations. We are holding this debate in Moore County to reach an audience of voters who may not be reached directly otherwise.”
