TYRO — Finnegan Avery recorded his 13th shutout of the season, as Salisbury’s boys soccer team rolled to a 5-0 win against West Davidson on Wednesday.
The Hornets (15-1-3, 8-0) are in command of the Central Carolina Conference race with four league games left.
Scoring goals were Hines Busby, David Austin, Danny Castillo, Johnathan Barrera Quintero and Mohammed Jabateh. Jabateh scored his first goal of the season.
Joel Saurez had two assists. Steven Rivas, Kevin Reyes and Lucas Webb had one each.
Busby and Henry Austin played very well.
” I do not think we’ve played particularly well the last two weeks, Salisbury coach Matt Parrish said. “I though tonight was a much better effort from top to bottom. We were finally able to practice a couple of times and did an excellent job of implementing what we worked on in the match. I thought we did a good job of moving the ball around and supplementing our attack.”
With the NCHSAA extending the schedule for the fall sports season by a week, the Hornets rescheduled two games that were originally scheduled during the fall break.
So the Hornets won’t return to action until they play South Davidson at home on Thursday, Oct. 17.
Game time is 6 p.m.
Salisbury is fourth in the 2A West RPI rankings.
