SALISBURY — Fame Preservation Group is inviting the public to attend its annual barbecue festival this weekend.

“You’re all honorably invited to attend this year’s third annual Fame Preservation Group Barbecue Festival at Stars and Bars Tavern, hosted by FamePreservation Group, Inc.,” a release from the organization said.

The event is slated to take place from noon to 4 p.m. at the tavern located at 723 Klumac Road in Salisbury.

“We’ll be raising money to have a roadside historical marker installed in recognition of a Mass Grave of 176 Confederate veterans who are buried in front of where the Fame Confederate Monument now stands within Old Lutheran Cemetery in Salisbury, NC,” the release said.

The event offers a variety of food and entertainment.

“We’ll be serving $10 Southern Barbecue plates with fixings, hosting eight different vendors, hosting guest speakers and welcoming Rick Thomas to perform Southern Rock and Roll live in celebrating American traditions and Southern Heritage as we recognize and reflect on historical preservation,” the release said. “This is our largest event of the year as a 501(c)3 nonprofit charity organization where all contributions raised will be tax deductible and devoted to our preservation goals as a historical society for our mission of our community initiative of educating the public of Rowan’s Confederate history and the true intentions of their military service.

“We appreciate all of our volunteers, donors, sponsors and vendors that have made this year’s Barbecue Festival possible as we continue to aim to achieve our goals as an organization.”
