St. Matthew’s Lutheran awards scholarships

St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church scholarships have been awarded for 2024-2025. The following 25 members of St. Matthew’s are recipients. All scholarships are $500 per semester — $1,000 for the year. The total scholarships awarded for 2024-2025 is $25,000. 

Collin Lee Cape, a graduate of Gray Stone Day School, will be entering UNC Wilmington this fall as a freshman. At Gray Stone, he played soccer and golf. He was an honors/AP student who plans to major in accounting. His parent is Charity Buie Cape of Salisbury. (New)

Jace Lee Cline a graduate of East Rowan High School, will be a sophomore at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte this fall. Cline plans to major in mechanical engineering. His parents are Kendal and Doug Cline of Salisbury. (Renewal, $1,000)  

Claire Cynthia Collins, a graduate of East Rowan High School, will be a junior at University of North Carolina at Charlotte this fall. She plans to major in business administration. Her parents are Sam and Amie Collins of Salisbury. (Renewal, $1,000)

Isabella Madden File, a graduate of East Rowan High School, will be a sophomore at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte this fall as a freshman. File is a chancellor’s list student who is a member of the Gold Dancers Team and Alpha Delta Pie. She plans to major in exercise science. Her parents are Brent and Julie File of Salisbury. Mattox Hoke Henderson, a graduate of East Rowan High School, will be a senior at North Carolina State University this fall. He plans to major in engineering. His parents are Sean and Kim Henderson of Salisbury. (Renewal, $1,000)     

McCall Ritchie Henderson, a graduate of East Rowan High School, will be entering North Carolina State University as a freshman this fall. He is ranked No. 1 in his graduating class where he took five AP courses and eight Rowan-Cabarrus Community College courses. At East Rowan, he participated in JV and varsity football and JV and varsity baseball earning All-Conference and All-County awards as a junior in baseball. Henderson played East Rowan Junior America Legion baseball and Rowan County American Legion baseball. He has been an East Rowan Diamond Sports youth baseball assistant coach, an SBR Baseball youth camp instructor, and a Rowan County HS baseball youth summer camp instructor. Also, Henderson served as a baseball summer camp instructor, “Kicking for Kindness” organizer/volunteer and Powder Puff football coach. He was a Jr. Civitan Club and a National Honor Society member. Henderson received the East Rowan DAR Food Citizen Award and the 2024 Hot Stove Greater Piedmont Slugger of the Year Award. He was a Granite Quarry Civitan Scholar and a High School Chief Junior Marshal. Finally, he was a 2024 Hot Stove Greater Piedmont Scholar Athlete of the Year finalist. At N.C. State he plans to major in engineering. His parents are Sean and Kim Henderson of Salisbury.  (New)

Krysten Drew Kirkpatrick, a graduate of East Rowan High School, will be a sophomore at the University of South Carolina this fall. She participates in SDUIS, SMULS and Dance Marathon. She in a member of Delta Delta Sigma, Delta Zeta, Collegiate Honors Society and is a dean’s list student. She plans to major in biology. Her parents are Lily Kirkpatrick of Gold Hill and Kevin Kirkpatrick of Salisbury. (Renewal, $1,000)

Rylee Jayna Klinger, a graduate of Stanly Stem Early College, will be attending North Carolina State University this fall as a freshman. She was a member of the National Honor Society and a member of the swimming team at North Stanley. Klinger was a member on the Swan Rowan Aquatics Club and the Swan Salisbury Cyclones and played bass guitar for the N.C. Lutheran Synod. She plans to major in biomedical science. Her parents are Robert and Jamie Klinger of Salisbury. (New)

Andrew Patrick Lanning, a graduate of Mooresville High School, will be a senior at North Carolina State University this fall. He plans to major in computer science. Lanning is a dean’s list student. His parents are Jarrod and Ashley Lanning of Mooresville (Renewal, $1,000)

Jada Ryan Lyerly, a graduate of Gray Stone Day School, will be entering Stanly Community College this fall as a freshman. She was a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the National Honor Society. Lyerly plans to major in aviation. Her parent is Crystal Lyerly of Gold Hill. (New)

Harrison Michael McCall, a graduate of Jesse C. Carson High School, will be a sophomore at Lander University this fall. He plans to major in business marketing. His parents are Barry and Lee McCall of Salisbury. (Renewal, $1,000)

Gavin Lee McDaniel, a graduate of East Rowan High School, will be a junior at Appalachian State University this fall. He is a member of the Glee Club and plans to major in computer science. His parents are Chad and Renee McDaniel of Salisbury. (Renewal, $1,000)

Tristan Aaron Miller, a graduate of East Rowan High School, will be a junior at UNC Charlotte this fall. He is a member of the American Society of civil Engineers (ASCE) and a member of the first place Concrete Canoe team at ASCE Carolina’s Symposium which will be going to Utah in June to compete in the National Competition. Miller is a chancellor’s list student who plans to major in civil engineering. His parents are Rhonda and Joe Miller of Salisbury. (Renewal, $1.000)

Anaston Mia Trexler, a graduate of Gray Stone Day School, will be entering the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as a freshman this fall. At Gray Stone, she was a member of the National Honor Society, the Danish National Honor Society, Young Life, varsity track, cross country and cheer. Trexler was a Fellowship of Christian Atheletes leader and a Novant Health volunteer. She plans to major in environmental science. Her parents are David and Ashlinn Trexler of Gold Hill.  (New)

He is a worship team member and a small group leader of Campus Crusade for Christ, in the N.C. State Honors Program and a two time dean’s list recipient. Kinley Brooke Trexler, a graduate of East Rowan High School, will be entering the University of North Carolina at Charlotte this fall as a freshman. At East Rowan, she was an honor graduate, a member of the National Honor Society, the Jr. Civitan and the Student Council. She plans to major in psychology/public relations. Colton Alexander Wrenn, a graduate of Person High School, will be a senior at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill this fall. He is a member of the Association of Nursing Students and has been elected to serve as secretary for 2024-2025. Wrenn is a member of the IPEP Distinguished Scholars Program and its treasurer for 2024-2025. He is a UNC School of Nursing student, an undergraduate member of the Student Governors Council, and a student nurse mentor. He plans to obtain a BS in nursing. Reagann Elisabeth Wrenn, a graduate of Person High School and has received an associate’s degree in science from Piedmont Community College, will be entering the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as a freshman this fall. She served as co-editor of the Person High School Yearbook and was a member of the National Honor Society, the student council, the prom committee, the 14066 Bible Study and played women’s golf, soccer and volleyball. Wrenn was a Distinguished Young Woman Participant and a preliminary awards recipient in scholastics and judges interview. She was an honor roll student at Person High School, a junior marshal and a president’s honor roll student at Piedmont Community College. Wrenn plans to major in business.
