Friday wreck claims life

- Police are investigating a fatal crash in Salisbury that occurred sometime before Friday morning, when police were notified that a body had been reported.
SALISBURY — According to reports from city officials, a fatal vehicle crash left at least one person dead on Friday morning in the southernmost part of Salisbury.
A call came out of the radio emergency scanner at approximately 8 a.m. indicating that a body was reportedly found in the 3600 block of South Main Street, in the vicinity of Airport Road and Peeler Road near where South Main Street turns back into Highway 29.
The body was reportedly recovered in the ditch across the road from the Fleming Candy Company.
A shoe and a hat were also found at the scene but it is unclear if those items belonged to the victim.
First responders on the scene included personnel from the Salisbury Police Department and the Salisbury Fire Department.
The identity of the victim was not released at the Salisbury Post’s print deadline.
Motorists traveling in both directions were significantly impacted as crews investigated the site of the wreck. The roadway was reportedly cleared, allowing traffic to resume as normal at about 11:45 a.m.
