SALISBURY — A man has been arrested for his role as the alleged coordinator of a November armed robbery that sent a woman to the hospital.

The robbery occurred on Nov. 29, according to a spokesperson for the Salisbury Police Department. Police were dispatched to a home on Dogwood Lane in reference to a robbery that had just occurred. When they arrived, they found two victims, a male and female occupant of the home. The female had sustained hand and hip injuries and had to be transported to Novant Health Rowan Medical Center for treatment.

According to the two victims, they witnessed two male suspects break into the home through a glass side door. When the female victim tried to stop them, they allegedly assaulted her and caused the injuries.

One of the suspects then held the two victims in a room while the other suspect ransacked the home, according to the spokesperson. The victims said that multiple firearms and a cell phone were stolen. The suspects also allegedly stole the victims’ car on the way out. The vehicle was found a few days later.

Superior Iquam Jaques Smith, 30, turned himself in to police on Friday and was charged with conspiracy to commit felony robbery. The spokesperson said that although Smith was not one of the two people who actually entered the home during the robbery, he was the one who coordinated the plan.

Smith was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center and given a $50,000 bond.
