Area Sports briefs: Geter joins Walker in Shrine Bowl

Salisbury quarterback/safety Mike Geter was added to the North Carolina Shrine Bowl roster on Monday.
Salisbury football coach Clayton Trivett got a call about Geter’s availability on Monday. Trivett wasn’t given an specific information, but Geter probably is a replacement for a player who was injured in the playoffs.
Geter, a Navy commit, will join teammate Deuce Walker (Georgia State) in the prestigious all-star game.
Both are expected to be defensive backs in college.
That game will be played Saturday afternoon in Spartanburg.
• Salisbury defensive end Dashawn Brown, a Livingstone commit, is a late addition to the East-West All-Star Game roster, probably due to injury. That game will be played on Sunday in Greensboro.
Brown will join Carson linemen Tristen McBride in that game.
Geter, Walker and Brown are all key members of Salisbury’s basketball team, while McBride plays hoops for Carson.

Weddington quarterback Tyler Budge, a Georgia Southern recruit, played with a shoulder injury, but threw for for 243 yards and two TDs as the Warriors crushed Hoggard 56-21 in the 4A championship game.

In 3A, Hickory beat (Fayetteville) Seventy-First 33-26 for its first state title in 26 years.
Brady Stober threw for 238 yards for the Red Tornadoes, while Isaiah Lackey ran for three TDs.

Reidsville made it four state titles in six years by beating Clinton 28-18 for the 2A championship.
Reidsville quarterback Al Lee threw for 258 yards and four touchdowns.

Mount Airy beat Tarboro 21-3 to repeat as 1A state champs.
Mount Airy has won 30 games in a row.
Tarboro shut out Mount Airy in the first half, but the Granite Bears rallied to win their ninth state title.
Virginia Tech recruit Tyler Mason rushed for 133 yards and was MVP.
Mount Airy head coach JK Adkins is a former Salisbury High assistant.
Mount Airy (16-0) came into the contest averaging 46 points per game in the postseason. Tarboro’s defense kept them scoreless for the first 24 minutes, but the Bears scored on their first possession of the third quarter.
HS running
South Rowan’s senior cross country and track and field standout Eli Julian announced a commitment to Liberty University.
HS swimming
Marshal Faw had two individual sprint wins and Alex Furr won the backstroke in South Rowan’s swim meet against Robinson.
HS wrestling
East Rowan is the host for the Rowan County Championships for boys and girls on Saturday.
College football
Harding rushed for 431 yards and crushed Lenoir-Rhyne 55-14 in a D-II national semifinal played in Searcy, Ark., on Saturday.
The Bears finished 13-2 and tied the program record for wins.
This was L-R’s best playoff run since the 2013 team was national runner-up.
College baseball
Former Queens head coach Ross Steedley (East Rowan) will be an assistant coach at Lipscomb, a D-I in Nashville, Tenn., this season.
