CHINA GROVE — Carson lost 45-24 to Central Cabarrus in a South Piedmont Conference game.
Carson (0-5, 0-3) isn’t getting a lot of offensive production so far from a youthful team and had four single-digit quarters against the physical Vikings.
Freshman Rylee Hedrick was the bright spot for the Cougars with a season-high 13 points. She had five steals and four rebounds.
Hedrick and Julia Burleson made 3-pointers, but Carson shot 18 percent from the floor and only attempted four free throws.
Central (5-1, 3-0) was balanced and was led by nine points by Daniyah Burton. The Vikings don’t appear to be as strong as West Rowan. Robinson and Northwest Cabarrus, but they are a good bet to finish in the top four in a nine-team league.
Central Cabarrus 16 14 8 7 — 45
Carson 6 4 7 7 — 24
CARSON — Hedrick 13, Burleson 7, Furr 4.

LANDIS — South Rowan got off to a nice start against Robinson, but eventually was overwhelmed by the Bulldogs’ superior size and quickness.
The Raiders (1-4, 0-3) jumped out 7-2 with a 3-pointer by Hannah Atwell and two buckets by Kynlee Dextraze.
It was 11-all after a quarter, but the Bulldogs pounded South in the second quarter, with the towering Hobbs sisters, 6-foot-4 post Ella (Ohio State recruit) and 6-foot-3 point guard Camri, combining for 16 points in the quarter.
When Camri, incredibly smooth and agile for a a young player that size, calmly drilled a long 3-pointer to beat the halftime buzzer, the Bulldogs were in command 36-17.
It got steadily worse for the Raiders in the second half, as both of the Hobbs sisters showed they had lethal 3-point range. On the defensive end, the Bulldogs hurried the Raiders into lots of airballs and turnovers.
Robinson (4-1, 2-0) took a 70-29 lead early in the fourth quarter to trigger a running clock.
Dextraze led South with 10 points and rebounded well. Atwell and Ari Alston scored eight points each.
South got a boost from Ella Morgan’s return from an ankle injury, although she didn’t get any shots to fall.
Camri Hobbs stood out for the Bulldogs with 26 points and 12 assists. Ella Hobbs scored 23.

South 11 6 10 4 — 31
