One transported to hospital after crashing while attempting to avoid deer

FRANKLIN – A man was transported to the hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries after he overturned his vehicle attempting to avoid a deer.
A witness said that the man was traveling east along East Ridge Road when a deer ran in front of his van around the 1800 block, according to a North Carolina State Highway Patrol trooper on the scene. The van then ran into the roadside ditch, traveling around a dozen yards before it hit a tree. The van flipped back onto the road, eventually coming to a rest upside down.
The man was transported to Wake Forest Baptist Hospital with a broken leg and other serious injuries, according to the trooper. None appeared to be life-threatening.
Firefighters with Ellis Cross Country Fire Department crash shut down East Ridge Road around 1 p.m. when the wreck occurred. One lane was reopened around 30 minutes later.
