SALISBURY — Two people were charged this weekend with using fake $100 bills at Lowe’s Home Improvement, and police say others are being sought with using dozens of the counterfeit bills.

The Salisbury Police Department charged Haleigh Madison Yarborough, 20, of the 300 block of North Main Street, Granite Quarry, and Savannah Michelle Joplin, 18, of the 9000 block of Mann Road, Kannapolis, each with felony conspiracy to possess a forged counterfeit instrument.

Yarborough was given a written promise to appear in court and Joplin was issued a $5,000 secured bond. Joplin has since been released from the Rowan County Detention Center.

The two women and at least three others are accused of using 31 $100 bills at the hardware supply store. The group overpaid for items and received $100 bills in return, police spokesman Lt. Lee Walker said.

The money appears real except with the words, “for motion picture use only.”

The Albemarle Police Department is investigating a similar incident where counterfeit $20 were used at businesses throughout town. The money also had “for motion picture only” written on them.

No other arrests have been made at this time.
