A Lexington man was charged Monday night after a high-speed chase began in Davidson County and ended in Rowan County.

Law enforcement, aided by a firefighter who spotted the vehicle, were able to end the pursuit.

The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office charged Dwight James Hall, 20, of the 300 block of Leo Circle, with felony fleeing to elude arrest.

Davidson County authorities were looking for a Toyota Scion that was supposed to be in the area of West Earnhardt Street in East Spencer. The same vehicle had been involved in a pursuit with Lexington police earlier the same day, but the department called the chase off at the Rowan County line, according to an incident report.

Rowan deputies were told Davidson County officers were looking for Dwight Hall, who had warrants for breaking and entering and larceny. A Rowan deputy in the area of Long Ferry Road had just gotten gas and was at a stop sign when he saw the vehicle in front of him, the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office said.

The deputy turned on his lights and began to stop the vehicle, but the driver took off. The driver began traveling at 80 to 90 mph and the deputy eventually lost sight of the car, according to the sheriff’s office.

Another deputy traveling in the opposite direction saw the vehicle and turned around in order to pursue it, according to the sheriff’s office. The driver managed to get around the officers, but was spotted by a Miller’s Ferry firefighter who said the vehicle they were chasing just passed the fire station.

Two Spencer police officers deployed stop sticks at Long Ferry Road near Interstate 85. The Spencer officers and an East Spencer officer pursued the vehicle for about another 200 yards before the driver pulled over.

The vehicle, which belonged to the mother of Hall’s girlfriend, was towed, the sheriff’s office said. Hall was arrested by the Lexington Police Department and remains in the Davidson County Detention Center.
