Staff report
The NC 3 American Baseball League, an alternative to the canceled American Legion season, has been formed.
The 3 is for Area III, but the league will have no official ties with Legion.
Rowan County, Randolph County, High Point, Lexington-Davidson, Mocksville and Kannapolis are among the members of the new league. Their teams would be drawn from their traditional schools and areas.

Senior teams will use American Legion eligibility rules. That means high school players and college freshmen who still will be 19 on Dec. 31.

Rowan plans a Senior team and four Junior teams.
Play will begin when — and if — the state of North Carolina lifts regulations.
The earliest possible start date is June 1. That possibility will be determined on May 15.
The other potential start dates are June 15 and July 1.
July 1 is the latest possible start date. That’s when the Legion regular season normally is concluding.
South Carolina teams also have formed a similar league.
