There are more than a dozen Dollar General stores in Rowan County and the latest one is planned for an intersection near the Rowan County Fairgrounds.

A reader asked about what’s being build at the intersection of Old Concord and Heilig roads. The answer is a 9,100-square-foot Dollar General Store.

The site was formerly home to a house. In 2015, the Rowan County Planning Board rezoned two parcels of land — 1.78 acres owned by Judy Edmiston, and 0.97 acres owned by Tina Davis — from rural residential to the commercial, business, industrial classification. At the time, there were no planned uses for the land and county staff members said the rezoning would allow for development flexibility.

The store’s developer is Teramore Development, a company frequently involved in Dollar General projects.

Plans submitted to the Rowan County Planning Department show shrubbery planted between the store and parking lot and the street as well as trees elsewhere on the property being removed in conjunction with the construction. A single entrance and exit to the store would be located on Heilig Road.

The nearest Dollar General are located off of U.S. 52 between Granite Quarry and Salisbury and at the intersection of U.S. 29 and Grace Church Road.
