ENOCHVILLE — A Kannapolis pair was charged Thursday with violating the governor’s stay-at-home order after breaking into a vehicle — the first known case of such a charge locally.

The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office charged Kenyatta Evans Thompson, 26, with failure to stay-at-home, misdemeanor larceny and felony breaking and entering. He’s being held in the Rowan County jail under a $2,500 secured bond. Christian Tyler Foster, 24, was also charged with failure to stay-at-home and possession of stolen goods. He’s being held under a $1,000 secured bond.

According to Capt. Chad Moose, the men were spotted walking in the area of West C Street, and sheriff’s deputies were called to a business at 1509 West C Street in Enochville, where they were told an unknown male suspect was seen going through a truck at the business. The victim reported that some clothing and a pack of Coca-Cola was stolen from the unlocked truck.

A news release said the suspects started running after seeing a marked patrol car. Additional sheriff’s deputies arrived and located the suspects outside of a BP store on West “C” Street. Deputies found the stolen property after searching the men, a news release said. Deputies also reviewed security footage from the local business that showed the suspects in the area of the larceny.
