Middle-schoolers Jonah Kirks and Hunter Wise were waving down cars on North Bostian Street in China Grove Tuesday, but neither were interested in hitching a ride.

Both were guiding passersby to Grace City Church, one of several lunch pick-up spots that have agreed to hand out lunches to Rowan-Salisbury Schools students on spring break. There, volunteers like Angela Watkins, Lisa Mills, Kyla Murphy and Paula Johnston were ready to hand out brown-bag lunches and drinks.

Grace City Church Pastor Mark Murphy said volunteers prepared 200 meals for the site and planned to deliver to people who were unable to make it to the church.

Tuesday was Grace City’s only day serving as a food distribution site, with others in southern Rowan County taking responsibility for others days. Some sites are serving meals on multiple days.

A full list of meal distribution sites is available for the entire county at rssed.org.
