Woman caught on tape rummaging through West Rowan Middle School buses

SALISBURY — The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office is looking to determine why a woman rummaged through a number of West Rowan Middle School buses Tuesday morning.

The woman was shown on school surveillance video walking down Barringer Road from Statesville Boulevard at 11:53 a.m. She was shown entering a bus, a lawnmower shed and then another storage building. Both buildings were locked, said Rowan Sheriff’s Capt. John Sifford.

The woman sat down around 12:23 p.m. then was seen walking back to the bus lot — where she rummaged through few more buses. It appears the only thing she took was a colorful blanket. Sifford said around 12:30 p.m. a white four-door vehicle pulled up and she got into the passenger side.

The vehicle left and headed toward Statesville Boulevard.

The woman was shown in the video wearing black shoes, black pants, a dark-colored short-sleeved shirt. She had brown hair that was worn in a bun.
