‘A Cross Shaped Life’ at Gloria Dei
A Lenten series held Wednesdays at 7 p.m. at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 1908 Statesville Blvd.
• March 11: “The Discipline of emptying: Have the same mind and love” with Rev. Kyle Bates, Wittenburg Lutheran Church;
• March 18: ”The Discipline of love: The Greatest of These” with Rev. Darrell Norris, Bethel Lutheran Church;
• March 25: ”The Discipline of salt and light: Noticeable” with Rev. Don McCann, Presbyterian Church, retired;
• April 1: “The Discipline of seeing: New eyes” with Rev. Sean Barrett, St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.

UCC Lenten sermon series
First UCC’s Lenten Sunday Supper Series continues on March 8 at 5:30 p.m. There will be programs following supper with guest speakers from the community.
The series, “What You Have Done to the Least,” comes from the 25th chapter of Matthew. Guest speaker on March 8 will be Coleman Emerson from Habitat for Humanity. RSVP to the church office know if you plan to attend: 704-633-2723.

St. John’s hosts Lenten Music & Meditation
March 9, 16 and 23
Pastors Rhodes Woolly and Laura Henrik along with area musicians offer brief services of Music and Meditation during the lunch hour on three consecutive Mondays during Lent, held in the St. John’s Chapel, 200 West Innes St., from 12:15-12:45 p.m..
The services will include prayer and meditation, and special music by Rosemary Kinard, flute and Rob Durocher, piano (March 9); Deanna Boksleitner, organ (March 16); and Connie Burleson, harp and piano (March 23).

Lenten series at John Calvin Presbyterian
John Calvin Presbyterian Church, 1620 Brenner Ave. hosts Lenten worship on Sunday at 11 a.m. in the sanctuary, exploring the theme of “Wilderness.”

Holy Cross honors Troop 525
MOCKSVILLE — Boy Scout Troop 525 was honored at the 9 a.m. service of Holy Cross Lutheran Church on Feb. 23. Recognized guests were the Scoutmaster as well as former scout leaders, present scouts, and former members of the troop.
Boy Scout Troop 525 was chartered in 1972 by Holy Cross Lutheran Church and is one of the oldest continuously active troops in Davie County.
Troop 525 meets on Mondays at 7 p.m. at the Scout Hut located behind Holy Cross at 1913 U.S. Highway 601 South. Interested boys, ages 11-17, may join the troop. For more information call Holy Cross at 336-751-5419.

‘A Cross Shaped Life’ at Haven Lutheran
A weekly light meal at 6:15 p.m. and 7 p.m. service in the fellowship hall at Haven Lutheran Church, 207 West Harrison St., co-hosted by St. Paul’s Episcopal and Haven Lutheran.

• March 18: Rev Kevin Conley, Unity Presbyterian. Topic: The discipline of salt and light: “Noticeable.”
• March 25: Rev Sean Barrett, St. Peter’s Lutheran. Topic: The discipline of seeing: “New Eyes.”
• April 1: George Jones. Topic: The discipline of repentance: “Return and Rejoice.”

Fourth annual Gospel fundraiser
On March 14 at 3 p.m. Tower of Power Church, 601 E. Cemetery St., hosts a gospel fundraiser concert featuring the Joylites, Carriers of Joy, the Gospel Supremes, Mike White & the Church Choir, Echoes for Christ, the Gospel Keytones, the Tower of Power Church Choir and Unity ‘N Praise. First UCC hosts history program
The Primetimers of First United Church of Christ, 207 W. Horah St., are hosting a lecture on “Rowan’s German Heritage” on Thursday, March 12 at 11 a.m. in the fellowship hall.
Dr. Gary Freeze, retired professor of history at Catawba College, will focus his lecture on the German religious and cultural history of Rowan County, from the Reformed perspective.
Dr. Freeze is the author of three books on The Catawbans, based on the history and genealogy of Catawba County.
