SALISBURY – Nine Descendants of former students, faculty and administrators of Dunbar High school were recently awarded $500 scholarships.
Marcus Amore Blair will pursue a bachelor’s in visual and digital arts at Fayetteville State University. He hopes to eventually obtain a master’s degree. He is the son of Mark Blair and Libby Toppings as well as the grandson of association member Ola Mae Blair Robbins.
Paris Hacket is a sophomore at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill pursuing a bachelor’s in Media Journalism and Studio Art with a minor in African American studies. Her grandmother is Olean Hall and her great uncle is Reginald Massey
Myles Holland is a sophomore at the University of Nevada Las Vegas pursuing a bachelor’s in biological science with plans to pursue a master’s in occupational therapy. He is the son of Alonzo and Chalese Holland and the grandson of Dunbar alumna Carolyn Long Napoleon
Roderick Holland is a senior at Winston-Salem State University pursuing a bachelor’s in computer science and completing an internship on campus. Holland’s parents are Edgrick and Pamula Holland. His grandmother is Carolyn Long Napoleon.
Jayla McDuffie is a junior at American International College pursuing a degree in bachelors in business administration. McDuffie is the daughter of Pamela and Ivan McDuffie and the niece of Elain Patterson Tate.
Christopher Maultsby is employed full-time while completing course work for a degree in business management from Savannah State College. Maultsby is the grandson of Sandra Corpening.
Dykira Ruffin is a freshman at N.C. A&T State University and plans to major in information technology. Ruffin is the daughter of Felicia Ruffin and the granddaughter of Essie Graham Ruffin.
Patrick Heath Tillman is a sophomore at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte pursuing a bachelor’s degree in theatre. His parents are Patrick and Stacie Tillman.
Jalesa Venning is completing her final term at East Carolina University enrolled in the College of Allied Health as an aspiring physician assistant. Her grandparents and guardians are Nathanial Venning and Brenda Venning.
