SALISBURY — An Asheboro man is facing felony sex offense charges that local investigators said stemmed from incidents that occurred from 2011 to 2012, according to the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office and an arrest warrant.

David Matthew Cleaver, 45, of the 1700 block of North Fayetteville Street, was charged last week with one count of felony first-degree sexual offense of a victim under 13 and one count of felony indecent liberties with children.

This incident involved a girl whose family was friends with Cleaver at that time, said Capt. John Sifford.

The arrest warrant said he committed the sex act with a child who was under the age of 13 at the time of the offense.

In January, Cleaver sent an email to the Salisbury Post and a number of other media outlets admitting that he molested a young girl. The Post provided that email to law enforcement. In the manifesto, Cleaver admitted that he had multiple personalities and that he lied to investigators.

In his confession, Cleaver wrote that he was looking for his next victim.

In October 2014, Cleaver also was arrested by the Asheboro Police Department on two counts of felony indecent liberties with a child. The alleged incidents occurred in Rowan County. In that incident, the sheriff’s office discovered the incident after they were notified by the Department of Social Services that an 11-year-old Rowan County girl had been victimized by an adult.

A news release said that Cleaver was a friend of the girl’s family. He was convicted in 2015 for crimes against nature and assault on a child for which he received probation and a suspended sentence.

He remains in the Rowan County jail under a $50,000 secured bond for this latest offense.
