Business briefs: Food Lion adds pharmacy app

SALISBURY – Food Lion pharmacy customers now have a new, easier way to manage their prescriptions and wellness through a new mobile pharmacy app.

With just the touch of a finger, customers can locate a Food Lion pharmacy, request prescription refills, access their prescription history, transfer medications and access a health library for information on general wellness topics. The app is available for free in the App Store for both iOS and Android devices.

Food Lion has a new pharmacy app for the stores that have pharmacies.

“Providing convenient health solutions to our neighbors is important to our pharmacists and all of us at Food Lion,” said John Bednarz, Manager of Pharmacy Operations at Food Lion. “This new app will provide customers with convenient, great care, plus additional resources to help manage their health and wellness. We encourage all our pharmacy customers to download the new app today to access these great features and services.”

There are 32 Food Lion pharmacy locations across five states. Locally, Food Lion No. 10 at 525 Jake Alexander Blvd. W. and Food Lion No. 2650 at 1460 S. Main St., China Grove, are pharmacy stores.

Novant Health named 2020 FutureEdge 50 award recipient

WINSTON-SALEM ― Novant Health has been recognized as a FutureEdge 50 award winner by the International Data Group (IDG) CIO Executive Council.

The FutureEdge 50 awards highlight organizations using emerging technologies to transform the customer experience, enhance worker productivity and more. The 50 companies recognized have established information technology initiatives that drive business success as well as early-stage projects pursued for high potential. Novant Health will receive the award at the AGENDA20 Awards in March.

  • Establishing the Novant Health Institute of Innovation & Artificial Intelligence, which develops AI-driven solutions for clinical quality and operational productivity. Examples include:
    • Implementing an AI-based solution for stroke patients, reducing Novant Health’s average treatment window to about half the national average, often sending stroke patients home with no side effects.
    • Reducing the readmission rates for congestive heart failure patients by leveraging an AI-based predictive algorithm.
    • Creating inpatient flow solutions to drastically improve hospital experience.

Machining, fabrication operation going in new production facility in Statesville

STATESVILLE — Marlboro Development Team, Inc. (MDT) has entered a long-term lease for a 40,000-square-foot manufacturing facility with Symmetrix Composite Tooling at 860 Connor St.

Symmetrix, headquartered in Bristol, Rhode Island, will use the facility for machining and fabrication of composite molds, patterns and plugs for various clients in the alternative energy, marine, aerospace, transportation, and art/architecture industries.  The facility was identified by Symmetrix and brokerage representatives at Colliers International due to its significant manufacturing infrastructure, modern facility attributes, and strategic location near I-77 and I-40.
