Area Sports: Davie boys fall in CPC contest

KERNERSVILLE — Davie County’s boys basketball team fell at East Forsyth in Central Piedmont Conference play on Thursday.

Davie was held to six points in the first half and lost 53-37.

Jordan Timmons scored  14 for the Eagles (5-12, 3-1), while Brooks Johnson had 10 for the War Eagles (11-6, 2-2).

EF’s Zyun Reeves blocked eight shots.

  West girls

MOORESVILLE —West Rowan’s girls got off to a very slow start at Lake Norman and lost 66-47 on Wednesday in a non-conference game.

Abigail Wilson scored 24 for the Falcons (14-2). Cindy Connolly made three 3-pointers and scored 11.

West scoring (47) — Wilson 24, Connolly 11, Poole 6, Arnott 3, Cuthbertson 3, Blabon, Mason, Durham.

Jayvee boys

Noah Loeblein scored 18 points for West Rowan in a 66-40 loss to Lake Norman on Wednesday.

Mid. school girls

Erwin’s girls defeated Knox, 38-31. Lilly Kluttz led the Eagles with 13 pts. Savannah Wise scored 12.

Corriher-Lipe’s girls won 40-17 against China Grove.

Meredith Faw scored 10 for the Yellow Jackets (6-0).

Addie Plott had nine points, Kynlee Dextraze scored eight, and McKenzie Menius had six.

Mid. school boys

Corriher-Lipe’s boys won 35-28 against China Grove.

Tristian Littlejohn led the Yellow Jackets with nine points. Jason Brown scord eight, Corbin Goodman scored six, and Brooks  Overcash had five.

College softball

  Catawba was picked ninth in the 12-team South Atlantic Conference Preseason Softball Coaches Poll.

  Catawba returns all but three players from last year’s team that was in first place in the league with a week remaining in the regular season.

Lincoln Memorial claimed 10 first place votes to be chosen as the preseason favorite. Carson-Newman was second in the poll with one first-place vote. Anderson took the other top vote and was third in the poll.

The South Atlantic Conference softball season gets under way on Saturday, Feb. 1.

Local golf

GARS members played at Rolling Hills.

Low ‘A’ Flight player was Ted Weant with a net of 66.25. Low ‘B’ Flight player was Ron Ervin with a net of 70.10. Low ‘C’ Flight player was Bob Turner with a net of 70.23.

Weant shot a 76 for low gross score, while Ervin won low net score.

College lacrosse

  Catawba took the fourth spot in the South Atlantic Conference Men’s Lacrosse Preseason Coaches Poll .

Senior goalie Kevin Geiger and sophomore defender Payton Leonard was selected to the preseason All-SAC first team.

Wingate was picked as the preseason favorite.
