… City and Downtown Salisbury, Inc. warn  of towing …

Fisher Street is a victim of its own success. Parking is scarce and not everyone is willing to park behind City Hall and walk through an alley. I would suggest the city invest in and advertise security cameras for pedestrian safety. It could be a deterrent to crime and make downtown shoppers feel safer walking more than half a block to buy a burrito.

Local leaders give ‘backpacks of love’ to Essie Mae Kiser …

Craig Pierce and his wife have believed in us from the beginning. To have them make such a big and beautifully thought out gift for each student in Essie Foxx’s name,  is indeed special.

China Grove’s Lee Withers files for county commissioner

Mr. Withers brings a legacy of community service to the table.

Rowan County needs stronger county commissioners than this guy.

County’s audit shows dip in unassigned fund balance

Sheriff’s Office needed a raise to be competitive. Then again, might want to tighten up next year. A socialist could win the presidency and the stock market and the economy could tank in late 2020.

Former Mayor Heggins … will run for state legislature

Last liberal to win this district was when dinosaurs roamed the earth.

— Chadwick Kluttz

I’m glad to see her running for office. I’m excited to see her lose big time.

White noise: Are these squirrels in Spencer …

We have a colony of white squirrels that hang out in our yard near the library park. They love to run across the top of the fence. We were told that a former mail carrier of ours had rescued some white squirrels and returned them to nature once they were healed.

— Laurie Deal Wilson

I didn’t even know there was such a thing as a white squirrel, until I had seen one. So I was very shocked about that.

— Tina Lynn Zollars

Richard Hudson: Impeachment was dark day …

The darkest day in the history of this country was when the “bogus POTUS” asked a foreign government to interfere in our election and tried to tweet intimidations to career non partisan witnesses testifying before the House of Representatives..

— Reginald Brown

As irascible, petty, childish, crude and petulant as President Donald Trump is, surely we can look back in history and find darker days.

Letter: Rowan County bands together to help China Grove man

Tami left someone out of this heart-warming Christmas story, herself. Thanks to all those who stepped up to help James, but without her tireless effort over the past year it would not have happened. Tami is truly an example of a person acting as God’s hands and feet in the world and loving her neighbor.

For now, Rowan-Salisbury Schools lunch debt paid off

According to several students at Carson, if your lunch account is in debt you are made to get an alternative lunch, which consists of fruits and vegetables.

My son said he watched a cafeteria worker instruct a child that couldn’t pay to throw his perfectly good lunch in the trash and go back for the alternative lunch.

— Brandy Blalock Mitchem

All public schools should provide free lunch to all students.

— Amanda Doyle

Students should not have to pay for their breakfast or lunches. Our jails and prisons are packed with murderers, rapists and child molesters and they get three free meals a day.

— Marsha Rinehart

This could be and should be paid out of the North Carolina “Education” lottery. Personally, I think the name should be changed to something else since education only receives a mere 35% of the proceeds.

— Wayne Smith

That part about denying a child lunch is crap because East didn’t let my daughter eat because she didn’t let me know she needed lunch money.

— William Barringer

If parents would go online and apply for free lunch, then we wouldn’t have so many kids in debt. Parents need to take responsibility for this, too.

— Jody Barringer

New traffic pattern in China Grove starting next week

State transportation contractors have already made a mess on Highway 152 with their roundabouts. I have almost seen several accidents because of them.

— Joe Ruble

If people would learn how to drive, they would understand that the roundabouts make traffic flow smoother. Just use common sense and pay attention.

Editorial: Data tell story of coming 76th District race

There’s no good reason to be unkind to Warren. So, I’ll just say there is an excellent more-connected type of representation on the way.
