West Rowan Middle does well in first FBLA competition

West Rowan Middle School competed in its first Future Business Leaders of America regional event, last Saturday at Lake Norman High School.

West had seven FBLA students complete in various categories and five won first place medals:

Eighth grade: Diontaye Montgomery, FBLA creed; Emma Clarke,  public speaking; Corbin Bailey, elevator speech and Janiya Patterson, career exploration. Seventh grade: Keaton Yonchuk, financial literacy and math.

Two students received second place silver medals: Eighth-grader Mya Noble for career exploration, and seventh-grader Tallon Blackwell, for financial literacy and math.

All seven students earned invitations to the FBLA state event, to be held in Greensboro, next March 18-21. The FBLA students are under the direction of Raye G. Brothers, business education teacher at West Middle.
