New Landis mayor, aldermen to be sworn in Monday

LANDIS — A new mayor and two aldermen will be sworn in at Monday’s Landis Board of Aldermen meeting.

The meeting will be 7 p.m. Monday at 312 S. Main Street, Landis.

Meredith Smith will become Landis’ first female mayor. Ashley Stewart will become an alderman and Katie Sells will become an alderwoman. They will join Darrell Overcash, who was appointed by the current board to complete late Alderman Bobby Brown’s term, and Alderman Tony Corriher.

Sen. Carl Ford, R-33, will swear in the newly elected mayor and aldermen.

The board will also appoint a mayor pro tem. Current Mayor Pro Tem Tommy Garver did not seek re-election.

Monday’s meeting also will be current Mayor Mike Mahaley’s last along with Alderman Seth Moore. Both did not seek re-election.

Ahead of the swearing in of the new board members, the outgoing board will recognize the retirement of Police Chief Kenny Isenhour. According to current Town Manager and Deputy Police Chief Roger Hosey’s contract, he will step into the police chief role.

The new board also will consider a resolution affirming the town council’s support of the implementation of a complaint NPDES MS4 stormwater program.

They will also receive information about fiscal year 2018-19 audit.

Following the meeting will be a reception to celebrate the new board.
