SALISBURY — Salisbury senior guard Anayia Fulson scored her 1,000th point to highlight a 73-57 win against Thomasville here Tuesday night.

Fulson is the 12th person in Salisbury program history to reach the milestone. She needed 13 points and got exactly 13. The game was stopped briefly to celebrate the occasion and she received a commemorative ball.

“We’ve got a lot of young players this season, but Anayia is doing a great job of leading us,” Salisbury coach Lakai Brice said. “She’s a good scorer, but she does a lot of other things well.”

The Hornets had their hands full in the Central Carolina Conference contest because of major foul trouble. Three Hornets fouled out. Salisbury shot 11 free throws, while Thomasville had 43 attempts.

Even with several starters sitting, the Hornets took a 42-32 halftime lead in the season opener for both teams.

“With the foul trouble, we were just trying to survive,” Brice said.

Sophomore Rachel McCullough scored 18 points and made three 3-pointers.

Freshman Kyla Bryant scored 11 points.

“We made a lot of big shots in key situations,” Brice said. “We overcame a lot. It’s hard to believe we scored as many points as we did.”
