SALISBURY — A Salisbury man is accused of attempting to stab his mother and choke his sister. Police said in order to get away from him, the sister stabbed him in the leg.

The Salisbury Police Department charged Hamilton Rhys Little, 22, of the 400 block of Gates Street, with one count of felony assault by strangulation, three counts of misdemeanor assault on a female and one count of misdemeanor communicating threats.

Little’s sister told police she heard their mother scream for help. She said she saw her brother on top of her mother, holding a pair of scissors. The sister, 20, tried to intervene, but the mother told her to get their father, according to police spokesman Lt. Greg Beam.

According to the arrest report, the father intervened and the daughter went to a neighbor’s house to call 911, Beam said. When she came back to the house, her brother met her at the front door.

Little tried to block his sister from getting inside but she managed to get around him, the report said. He grabbed her by the neck and began choking her, according to the report. The sister then hit Little in the groin and cut him on the forearm with scissors but he did not release her. She then stabbed him three times in the leg.

According to the report, Little was drinking when his sister came home and offered her some alcohol. She refused and later saw her brother attacking her mother, the report said.

Beam said it’s not clear what started the argument between Little and his mother.

He remains in the Rowan County Detention center under a $7,500 secured bond.
