Area Sports: Double-double for SHS grad Troutman

WINGATE — Freshman Bryanna Troutman (Salisbury) had 15 points, 11 rebounds, two blocks, two steals and two assists as Wingate’s women’s basketball team  (4-1)  beat UNC Pembroke 60-41 on Wednesday.

College soccer

Catawba sophomore defender Katie Beck has been named first team All-Southeast Region by  the Division II Conference Commissioners Association.

Beck was the South Atlantic Conference Defensive Player of the Year.

Flagler junior Sara Sandberg was named the D2CCA Southeast Region Player of the Year.

Beck helped Catawba to a second straight Division  II tournament berth.

College volleyball

Catawba sophomore hitter Kylie Morgan was named Honorable Mention All-South Atlantic Conference as the league released the all-conference teams and award winners on Wednesday.

Anderson setter Emily Conlin was voted Player of the Year, while Tusculum outside hitter Emiah Burrowes was named Freshman of the Year. Queens’ Hannah Long was named Coach of the Year.

Morgan led Catawba in kills per set at 3.08, totaling 222 over 23 matches.

She reached double figures in kills 10 times with a career-high of 27 in the season opener against Lenoir-Rhyne. Morgan was third on the team with 200 digs and second in aces with 19. She added 25 blocks.

HS softball

A.L. Brown shortstop  Lauren Ritchie has signed with Lees-McRae.

HS girls soccer

Carson standout Gracie Thomason plans to sign with Catawba on Friday afternoon.

    

HS boys basketball

LEXINGTON — East Rowan’s boys lost their season opener at Central Davidson on Tuesday, 60-51.

Gavin Sprinkle led the Mustangs with 16 points. Jake Hunter had 10, Sammy Pinckney had nine, and Landon Shuping scored seven.

Cory Casilac led the Spartans with 15 points.

East is at home on Friday against South Rowan.

HS girls basketball

Emily Hege scored 26 points for North Davidson in a 56-51 loss to Mount Airy on Wednesday.

Courtney McMillan scored 14 for the Black Knights.

Kenzie Hodges and Addie Phipps scored 19 each for the Bears.

Rowan basketball

Concord plays at Carson tonight. Concord’s girls are coached by former North  Rowan girls coach Brian Lytton.

Salisbury Academy

The Salisbury Academy varsity girls basketball team defeated Forsyth Country Day School, 40-4.

Leading scorers for the Jaguars were Maggie Antosek with 10 points, and Lucy Barr, Lanie Humble, and Emmaline Goodnight  with six each.

Salisbury Academy plays Monday at home against Summit.
