Crime blotter: Two arrested for returning never-bought coffee maker

SALISBURY — A Rockwell couple are charged with returning a coffee maker they never purchased for a refund.

Joshua Greg McDaniel, 30, and Amanda Marie Tutwiler, 28, went to Walmart last Tuesday and took a coffee maker off the shelf, according to the Salisbury Police Department. Warrants alleged the couple went to the customer service desk to return the appliance for a refund.

Tutwiler showed an identification card and McDaniel signed for the return, warrants said. The $84.53 from the return was put on a gift card.

Police arrested McDaniel and Tutwiler on Saturday. McDaniel was charged with felony fraud by false pretense. Tutwiler was charged with felony aiding and abetting obtaining property by false pretense.

Other weekend arrests include:

• Justin Kori Bryant, 30, of Salisbury, was charged with felony obtaining property by false pretense after he returned a $64.16 record player that he never paid for at Walmart last Wednesday.

• Lonnie Benjamin Moore, 70, of Salisbury, was charged with misdemeanor misuse of the 911 system on Saturday by the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office. Moore called 911 four times in a 24-hour period with a complaint he had been told how to handle, according to the report.

• Justin Eugene Bell, 28, of Salisbury, was charged with felony possession of Schedule II controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia Friday by Salisbury police.

• James Patrick Odonoghue, 51, of Salisbury, was charged with trafficking in heroin or opium on Friday by the Sheriff’s Office.

• Thomas Heath Jordan, 45, of Gold Hill, was charged with misdemeanor violating a protective order and assault on a female after he grabbed the victim’s shirt and her neck and hit her face on Nov. 13. On Friday, warrants allege he followed the victim in his vehicle, trying to get her to talk to him. 

He was also charged in Cabarrus County for breaking and entering to terrorize and injure. He tried to break into a house through two entrances and caused property damage, warrants said. He also violated the protective order by calling and sending threatening text messages on Nov. 9, warrants said.

He is being held in Rowan County Detention Center under a $245,000 bond.

• Christina Marie Griffin, 27, of Salisbury, was charged Saturday by Albemarle police with felony obtaining property by false pretense; conspiracy to obtain property by false pretense; larceny after breaking and entering; breaking and entering; and conspiring to break and enter. She was also charged with misdemeanor injury to real property.

• Cornelius Lamar Butler, 22, of Salisbury, was charged Friday with interference with electronic monitoring by the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office.

• Anquenette Shamir Alexander, 30, of Salisbury, was charged Saturday by the Sheriff’s Office for felony possession of a Schedule II controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

• Kelly Gabreila Quintanilla, 23, of Charlotte, was charged Saturday by Spencer police with misdemeanor resisting a public officer and assault on a government official after she allegedly hit an officer who was arresting her boyfriend.
