SALISBURY — The brick building that housed the former Wrenn House restaurant stands at the corner of West Innes and Jackson streets. Before it was a place for food, it was the Female Academy in the 1800s.

Now, the building stands silent, as the restaurant has closed. But some form of life will come to the building. As Bell Tower Green Park construction work continues, a reader asked what plans were for the building.

“Those plans are still in progress,” said Jason Walser, a board member of the Bell Tower Green downtown park project and executive direction of the Blanche and Julian Robertson Foundation.

The building is owned by Bell Tower Green Inc., Walser said. He said the board anticipates it will house a restaurant again and be run by private restaurateurs, even if it is owned by Bell Tower Green. Those details have yet to be be worked out.

The timeline is not set in stone, according to Walser.

Repairs to the brickwork and roof are set to begin soon, and design and restoration plans are underway.

Once finished, the space will hopefully offer good food and entertainment with outdoor seating as an integrated part of Bell Tower Green, Walser said.

“This vision is that it will definitely be an important part of the Bell Tower Green,” Walser said.
