SALISBURY — Lutheran Services Carolinas has established the Foundation for Abundant Living to replace the Lutheran Services for the Aging Foundation.

The new foundation will provide a giving avenue that encompasses the outreach of Lutheran Services Carolinas. It will allow people to invest in the long-term success of the child and family services part of the Lutheran Services mission, as well as its services for the aging.

The foundation will hold the gifts in a savings account, spending only the interest to underwrite the mission. This not only creates assets that give Lutheran Services the collateral for continued expansion of services but also a perpetual source of income for all its partners.

A For the Children Endowment will be developed within the foundation. The funds will serve children and young adults in urgent need across the Carolinas: children in foster care, young adults transitioning out of foster care, and children dealing with traumatic brain injuries or other developmental challenges.

The foundation will provide a way to invest in their successful treatment and care.

In addition to holding endowment funds, the foundation will apply for grants to support the work of Lutheran Services across the Carolinas.

Richard Duncan, chief development officer of Lutheran Services Carolinas, has been named president of the foundation by the board of trustees.
