Kansas girl with local ties wins state tennis title

LEAWOOD, Kan. — Bryson Langford and Greta Stechschulte won the Kansas (6A) doubles state championship last week. The two are freshmen at Shawnee Mission East High School.

Langford is the daughter of former local tennis stars, Susan Saunders (Salisbury High School, N.C. State) and Thad Langford (Lexington High, Univ. of Arizona). Saunders was inducted into the Rowan-Salisbury Sports Hall of Fame in 2005.

Langford’s grandparents are Frank and Anne Saunders of Salisbury.

Both 14-year-olds are ranked nationally — Stechschute at 272 and Langford at 281.
