SALISBURY — A Salisbury woman stabbed her boyfriend Monday morning after reading a text message on his phone that she believed to be from another woman, according to the Salisbury Police Department.

Police charged Nhekiyi Adrienn Chambers, 23, of the 1600 block of Standish Street, Apartment 6-A, with felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. She was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center without bond because of the domestic nature of the incident.

Officers were called to Zion Hills apartment complex, where Chambers and her boyfriend, Brian Kesler, had been in an altercation Sunday night. Police spokesman Lt. Greg Beam said Chambers needed to use Kesler’s cellphone because her phone battery had died. She became angry when she saw a text message from another woman, Beam said.

Chambers grabbed a knife and stabbed Kesler in the lower left shoulder. Beam said the knife damaged some blood vessels and Kesler had to have surgery. He was airlifted to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, where he was in stable condition.
