College sports: Otto thriving as dual-threat QB

College football

Kacey Otto (West Rowan) had a rushing touchdown and a passing TD for St. Andrews in a 52-14 romp over Union (Ky.) on Saturday.
Otto has 570 passing yards in five games.
He has four rushing touchdowns and five passing touchdowns this season.
The Knights have won their first two conference games.

Sandon McCoy (A.L. Brown) was the leading rusher for Army in 17-8 loss to Western Kentucky with 11 carries for 41 yards.

Kortez Weeks (West Rowan) had eight catches for 56 yards as Elon rolled against Delaware on Saturday.

Charlotte’s Chris Reynolds (Davie) threw for 114 yards and a touchdown and ran for 41 yards in a loss to Florida International on Saturday.

Jayln Cagle (A.L. Brown) had a rushing TD and a receiving TD for Gardner-Webb in a 35-27 win against Hampton.
 Keldrick (KJ) Wilson (West Rowan) started at right tackle on Hampton’s offensive line.

Catawba’s tackles on Saturday at Carson-Newman included five by Steven Thurston (North Rowan), four by Eric Gibson (North Rowan) and three by Brenden Westbrook (Carson).

Freshman Nautica Patterson (North Rowan) had four solo tackles for Greensboro on Saturday in a loss to N.C. Wesleyan.

Averett football romped on Saturday against LaGrange. 
JaVon Lofton (West Rowan) had a sack. Jaleel Webster (North Rowan) had 18 rushing yards, 14 receiving yards and a 51-yard punt return. Ka’seim Black (A.L. Brown) had a breakup and three tackles.

Wesley Porter (East Rowan) made six tackles for Sewanee on Saturday in a 24-21 loss to Centre.

Teoz Mauney (West Rowan) had three tackles on Saturday for St. Augustine’s in a comeback win against Livingstone.

In Fayetteville State’s win against Shaw, Jacob Young (North Rowan) handled punting duties and kicked two PATS for the Broncos.’
Men’s golf

Through the first two rounds of the Crooked Stick Invitational, UNC Greensboro men’s golf (307-300) is currently in 13th place.

The third and final round will take place Tuesday.

Junior Nick Lyerly (East Rowan) has shot 77-74 (7-over) and is tied for 42nd.

 

Cross country

In the Royals Challenge hosted by Queens, Catawba’s Madison Lowery (South Rowan) ran an 18:58 5K. Lenoir-Rhyne’s Faith Faller (East Rowan) ran 19:48.

In the men’s race, L-R’s Sean Incardona (East Rowan) ran a 26:21 8K.

 

Volleyball

Catawba setter Morgan Hester (Carson) is fourth in the South Atlantic Conference with 458 assists and third with 9.96 assists per set.

Lindsay Elmore (Carson) had nine kills and eight blocks for Queens in a 3-2 win against Anderson on Saturday.

Nancy Gamewell (Carson) had six kills for William Peace in a win against NC Wesleyan on Monday.
