SALISBURY — A man and woman are accused of using a cleaning business to steal and pawn thousands of dollars worth of jewelry.

In one incident, a ring valued in the thousands was stolen and replaced with a cheaper ring.

The Salisbury Police Department charged Amanda Lynn Rakes, 35, of the 2000 block of Welch Road, with felony larceny. Jonathan Paul Craver, 42, also of the 2000 block of Welch Road, was charged with felony obtaining property by false pretenses.

Police officials said it’s believed that Rakes worked for the cleaning service and swapped out an expensive ring for a cheaper one at a home in the 100 block of Covenant Woods Drive.

A woman came home to discover multiple rings, including a class ring and wedding band, were all missing. Rakes was arrested Friday at the home she and Craver share.

Craver was not accused of stealing the jewelry, but detectives said he pawned the jewelry.

Rakes and Craver were released from the Rowan County Detention Center under a $500 secured bond each.
