Boyden High School Class of 1954 holds 65th reunion

The Boyden High school class of 1954 celebrated its 65th Reunion, Sept. 13-14, 2019. Festivities began Friday, Sept. 13, with dinner at the home of Roy and Norma Campbell in Milford Hills.

Departing from previous formats, those attending enjoyed a luncheon held Saturday at Santos Italian Grill, on East Innes St. Roy Campbell was the master of ceremonies and James Jarrell, who had made name tags using 1954 annual pictures, gave the invocation and led in the remembrance of classmates no longer living. Decorations using the school colors of black and gold were provided by Mary Jane Smiley Thompson. Since the afternoon would be free for many, suggestions for a driving tour of the area, prepared by Mack and Meetta Carlton Lampert, were distributed.

One of the highlights of the event was the presentation of gifts from the class to Roy and Norma Campbell, by Betty Dan Nicholas Spencer. Roy was given a Christmas wreath composed of NC State University ornaments created by Kerry Barger Gardner; and Norma, a silver charm facsimile of their Milford Hills home crafted by Windsor Jewelers. Through the years, Roy and Norma have entertained the class members not only for reunions, but also each Christmas.

Co-chairs of the event were Roy and Norma Campbell. Committee members were Shirley Barnes Freeze, Nancy Eagle Coggin, Mack and Meetta Carlton Lampert, Buddy and Joyce Evans, James and Nancy Jarrell, Betty Dan Nicholas and Bobby Spencer, and Mary Jane Smiley and Jeff Thompson.
