SALISBURY — The Center for the Environment at Catawba College and Bread Riot of Salisbury-Rowan County will co-host a discussion on autoimmune disease, scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 3, at 6:30 p.m. in Room 300, at the Center for the Environment on the Catawba campus.

Dr. Chris Magryta, who practices with Salisbury Pediatrics, will discuss the latest understanding of the genesis and reality of a country with an exploding autoimmune disease problem. Dr. John Wear, executive director of the Center for the Environment, said that the event will center on “What do we know and where do we go from here?”

Magryta has a special interest in pediatric allergies, asthma, autism and immunology. He has studied integrative medicine with Dr. Andrew Weil at the University of Arizona School of Medicine and provides specialized care in prevention and nutrition, combining alternative medicine with traditional medicine.

Bread Riot is a nonprofit promoting the advantages of eating locally and sustaining local farmers.

Following the discussion, Bread Riot will sponsor a local food tasting.
