Area Sports: South, West volleyball win

South Rowan’s volleyball team swept Ledford  in a key Central Carolina Conference matchup on Thursday.

The Raiders won 25-17, 25-11 and 25-12 with relative ease  in a battle between two of the three teams that tied for first place in 2018.

Kira Rymer had 11 kills, 17 digs and 14 assists. Anna  Rymer had 15 kills, seven blocks and 10 assists. Payton Black had 14 digs.

West Rowan’s volleyball team won against Cox Mill 25-23, 25-20 and 25-14 on Thursday in a non-conference match.

Tori Hester had 14 kills, 13 digs, three aces and two blocks. Emma Gusler had five kills and three aces. Allison Ennis had 29 assists and two blocks. KK Dowling had four blocks.

Jayvee volleyball

South Rowan’s jayvee volleyball team beat Ledford 18-25, 25-15 and 15-13  on Thursday.

Ava Huffman had three blocks. Emma Owens had five assists. McKinley Faw had seven digs.

Cox Mill topped West Rowan in three sets.

 

Jayvee football

Davie won against Page 23-14 on Thursday.

Alex Summers passed for 147 yards and threw a TD pass to JT Bumgarner.

DeVonte Lyerly had a rushing TD. Isaiah Lytton scored on a punt return.

 

 

HS tennis

Carson’s girls won 6-3 against Mooresville on Thurdsay.

Carson opened with a 9-0 win against South Rowan on Tuesday.

Pro basketball

After two successful seasons in the Netherlands,  Keshun Sherrill (West Rowan) will play this season in Turkey.

Intimidators

Kannapolis professional baseball will christen the  state-of-the-art downtown Kannapolis Sports & Entertainment Venue   on Thursday, April 16th.

The team’s  new home will have a capacity of close to 5,000 spectators.
