White Family reunion

Members of the White Family assembled in Salisbury for their 49th family reunion on July 12-14.

That Friday, a meet-and-greet outing was held at the Granite Quarry Civic Park.

On Saturday, the family met for breakfast at I-Hop, and then later at Ellis Park for a program, family history and dinner. Several members were recognized, such as those who traveled the farthest — Jeannine Chirse from Nevada; and the oldest — Corine Cannon at age 91; and the youngest — Jaxsyn Medlin, age 11 mos. Also recognized were births, graduations, marriages and seasoned family members.

Reunion attendees traveled from Nevada, Colorado, Texas, Pennsylvania, Virginia and North Carolina.

Kecia page of Winston-Salem is the family coordinator. Committee members are Courtney L. Kimball, Sharon Williams, Amber Gilmore, Alyesa Gilmore, Jana Hyman and Diane Gilmore.

 

Keep Kids in School and Out of Court

Held at the Salisbury Civic Center, 315 MLK Jr. Ave. on Aug. 3 from 1-2:30 p.m.

This community-wide event kicks off Rowan County’s NC School Justice Partnership, supporting collaboration with the NC Courts to keep students in school and out of court.
School Justice Partnerships establish equity in schools and courts, involve diverse community leaders and stakeholders, reduce suspensions and court referrals, keep students on track and accountable, and increase achievement and graduation rates.

Keynote speakers are Adam Sotak, NC Child Public Engagement Director, and Rocky Cabagnot, Executive Director of Salisbury-Rowan Community Action Agency.

The Jubilee Choir, Salisbury Kings and Queens and Triple Threat Dance add to the festivities. Grassroots community groups, elected officials, local leaders and agencies will be recognized for their actions to eliminate disparity and improve life for all citizens in Rowan County.  Opportunities for artists and musicians

Piedmont Prime Time Community Band
Open to musicians with prior experience in high school or college bands or the equivalent. The season’s first rehearsal is Aug. 5, 7:15-9 p.m., at Concord High School’s band room, 481 Burrage Road.
Member fees are $25 per semester. The Band’s season includes weekly rehearsals and four performances under the direction of Jason Partridge.

Stanly County Concert Band
No membership fee.
First rehearasal is at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 15.

Rehearsals are held in the Pfeiffer University Band Room adjacent to the maintenance building behind the chapel, on Thursdays 6:30-8:15 p.m.

Salisbury Symphony Orchestra
Music Director David Hagy will hear auditions at the Williams Music Building, Catawba College. on Sept. 7 for strings and Sept. 8 for non-strings.
Positions available are assistant principal viola, section bass, third trumpet, section percussion, any instrument for sub-list.

Carolina Artists Expo
Enter your artwork in the 2019 edition of the annual art show, to be held at the Salisbury Civic Center in September.
Art work will be judged and the reception and presenting of awards will be Sept. 19 at 6:30 p.m.
