High school football: Salisbury grad Gill in on four tackles in East-West All-Star Game

GREENSBORO — The West football team lost 20-8 to the East in the annual N.C. Coaches Association East-West All-Star Game played late on Wednesday night at Grimsley’s Jamieson Stadium.

Cameron Gill (Salisbury) started at defensive back and had three unassisted tackles and one assist for the West squad.

The MVP was Tarboro back Keon Caudle, who topped 100 rushing yards and scored a game-sealing 7-yard touchdown with 1:34 left to play.

The West team scored its lone touchdown on defense and was shut out the final three quarters.

The East took a 7-0 lead on an 81-yard touchdown pass from Kyler Davis to Lamont Murray with 8:15 left in the first half. The pass play was the longest from scrimmage in the history of the East-West game.

The West touchdown came on a 69-yard fumble return by Kenneth Washington (Shelby).  When  JahTwan Stafford (Monroe) ran for a 2-point conversion, the West had an 8-7 lead.

The East answered with a defensive score of its own.  Kentreaz Coston had a 20-yard pick-six that gave the East a 13-8 halftime lead.
