Area Sports: East-West basketball on Monday

Three Rowan County girls — South’s Janiya Downs, Salisbury’s Bryanna Troutman and Carson’s McKenzie Gadson — will play for the West all-stars in Monday’s annual East-West Basketball All-Star Game at Greensboro Coliseum.
Tip-off for the girls game is at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $10.
Carson’s Brooke Stouder is the assistant coach for the West team.
The West team also includes Catawba signees Lyrik Thorne (Ledford) and Shaunae Sawyers (Mount Airy).
North Stanly’s Bryson Childress and North Davidson’s Themus Fulks will play for the West boys team in a game scheduled to start at 8:30 p.m.
All-stars arrived in Greensboro on Saturday.
The soccer all-star game is Tuesday night, with the football game set for Wednesday.
Little League softball
Rowan Little League’s 8U softball all-stars beat Franklin Little League 12-8 in the state tournament in Salisbury on Saturday and play Rutherfordton for the state championship today at noon.
Local golf
The McCanless Women’s Golf Association held its annual Fun Day on Saturday and used a Captain’s Choice format.
First place went to the team of Sharon Miller, Susan Wydner, Robin Leslie and Gloria Wilhelm.
The team of Susan Houston, Mary Seaford, Eileen Full and Tammie Drew finished second.
Miller won closest to the pin, while Full won longest putt.
NBA
Rayjon Tucker (Milwaukee Bucks)and Codi Miller-McIntyre (L.A. Lakers), both of whom played some high school basketball at Northwest Cabarrus before transferring, are playing in the NBA Summer League.
So is recent Cornell grad Matt Morgan (Cox Mill). He scored 11 points in 18 minutes in his first game for the Toronto Raptors team.
Former Davie County player Cody Martin scored 12 poionts for the Charlotte Hornets squad on Saturday in a win against Utah.
Intimidators
KANNAPOLIS— Andrew Vaughn hit a walk-off single with one out in the ninth inning, as the Kannapolis Intimidators beat the Rome Braves 6-5 on Saturday.
The Intimidators scored one run in the seventh before Rome tied the game 5-5 in the ninth.
