South Rowan Junior Legion rallied to beat Randolph Red 5-4 on Wednesday and swept their Area III semifinal series two games to none.

South trailed 4-2 going to the bottom of the sixth but put together a three-run inning.

Ty Hubbard had a two-run single to tie the game.

Kane Kepley and Joseph James had two hits each for South.

South’s Luke Hiskey pitched a complete game and struck out four.

South has qualified for the upcoming state tournament hosted by High Point.

Grayson Miller and Brandon White coach the South team.

East Rowan lost to Oak/North 17-4 on Wednesday at Holt-Moffitt Field to lose that series 2-0.

East finished 17-11.

Legion baseball

Mocksville got homers from Joey Szvetitz and Patrick Usher and beat Concord 9-4 on Wednesday at Rich Park.

Mocksville trailed early, but  a four-run fourth inning put the home team in control.

Mocksville took a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five series. Concord, regular-season champion in the Southern Division of Area III,  hosts Game 3 tonight at Mount Pleasant High.

Mocksville had 13 hits, with Usher, Nick Ward, Spencer Claus, Troy Clary and Jacob Campbell getting two each.

Ward was the winning pitcher. He pitched into the sixth, and Claus closed it out. They held Concord to three hits.

High Point battered Eastern Randolph 15-0 in Ramseur on Wednesday to take a 2-0 lead in a best-of-five series.

Luke Pritchett homered for High Point, and Carson Shetley pitched a two-hit shutout. CJ Johnson went 3-for-3.

Randolph County won 8-6 at Stanly County on Wednesday to take a 2-0 lead in a best-of-five series.

Randolph scored two runs in the sixth to snap a 6-all tie.

Spencer Lanier had two  RBIs, while Trevor Marsh had two hits for Post 45.

For Stanly, Will Dagenhart, Jack Foley and Colton Austin had two hits.

Game 3 is tonight at McCrary Park in Asheboro.

Randolph County will host the Mid-Atlantic Regional on Aug. 7-11.

The regional will include the state champions from Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, North Carolina, New York, West Virginia and Virginia.

The Southeast Regional will be played in Tampa and will include the champions from Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee and  South Carolina and the South Carolina runner-up.

Little League softball

Rowan Little League’s 10U softball all-stars won 29-18 against Chase Little League on Wednesday in the state tournament at New Market Civitan Park in Sophia.

Rowan scored 10 runs in the second and 11 in the top of the fifth in the five-inning game.

Rowan’s Jordan Drye and Kimberly Troublefield had five hits each. Leisha Carter, Allison Peeler and Leah Troutman had four hits.

Legion softball

Rowan County lost Tuesday’s doubleheader to Davidson County 6-0 and 13-2.

Local golf

Sixty-six GARS members played at Rolling Hills.

Low ‘A’ Flight player was Winsten Mahaffey with a net of 62.24.

Low’ B’ Flight player was Thomas Dodge with a net of 60.21.

Low ‘C’ Flight player was Bill Hathcock with a net of 58.41.

Low ‘D’ Flight player was Larry Perrell with a net of 64.63.

Bernard Caldwell shot a 70 for low gross and  Hathcock had low net.

Ernest Wagner and Mark Yehl eagled the par 5  No. 18 hole.

Caldwell, 71, shot a 70. Bob Niekras, 77, shot a 77.  Mahaffey, 82, shot a 71. Frank Masingo 83, shot a 78. Bill Saunders, 85, shot an 83.

Intimidators

KANNAPOLIS — Ji-Hwan Bae doubled twice, also stealing a base as the Greensboro Grasshoppers defeated the Kannapolis Intimidators 6-2 on Wednesday.

Grant Koch doubled and singled with two runs for Greensboro.

Greensboro got on the board first in the third inning when it scored three runs, including a single by Fabricio Macias that scored Kyle Mottice.

The Intimidators cut into the deficit in the fourth inning when Alex Destino hit a solo home run.

The Grasshoppers later added a run in the fifth and two in the seventh. In the fifth, Michael Gretler hit an RBI double, while Koch scored on a wild pitch in the seventh.

Greensboro right-hander Alex Manasa (8-2) picked up the win after allowing one run on five hits over five innings. Opposing starter Sam Long (4-2) took the loss in the South Atlantic League game after allowing four runs and nine hits over 4 2/3 innings.

Greensboro improved to 5-1 against Kannapolis this season.
