Salisbury Vigil of Solidarity to protest inhumane conditions faced by migrants

On Friday, July 12, from 8-9 p.m., Piedmont Unitarian Universalist Church will partner with Lights for Liberty as organizations across the United States and other countries bring people together to protest the inhumane treatment conditions faced by migrants in the United States.

This public, nonpartisan community event will take place at 1600 Brenner Ave.,  directly across from the Hefner VA Medical Center.

Organizers say this demonstration of American democracy is dedicated to human rights and the fundamental principle of our nation that all human beings have a right to life, libertyand dignity. The hour -long community event will include speakers the Rev. Mary Frances Comer, minister of Piedmont Unitarian Universalist Church; Rabbi Dr. Andrew Ettin of Temple Israel; Pastor Anthony Smith of Mission House; and Evelyn Medina, small business owner.

At the 9:0 p.m. conclusion, those participating will join others across the country to shine a light in solidarity to protest the current inhumane treatment of migrants. Open flames are not permitted, so please bring a flashlight, camera phone light, battery operated candle or glowstick, and light up social media with the following hashtags:  #Lights4Liberty #DontLookAway #EndUSDetentionCamps
